A little on the sloppy side and not a very petty skater

It’s always the same, also in the comments. America vs Europe. Well let me tell ya Yankees, here in Europe we understand presentation and artistic impression drastically differently than you do. What’s artistry to you is just superficial rubbish for simple people to us. McDonalds in skating. That’s why we would normally always go for this performance ahead of Kwan’s. Who was perhaps more elegant in some moves but the overall expression of Slutskaya and the female beauty in Butyrskaya’s skating was far more appealing. By a mile. Like no comparison at all. Anissina/Peizerat, Drobiazko/Vanagas ahead of Lynn-Bourne/Kratz. Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze over Sale/Pelletier. And so on.

Half the crowd knew when Irina's SP marks came up and the rest of the crowd was clued in during the presentation marks that Kwan was ahead.

I watched this video again and I finally realized that Russian judges cheating history actually started back then or even earlier!!

That was a magnificent performance of one of the most beautiful short programs that I have ever seen. Maria was a beautiful artist, and she is a beautiful woman.

The commentator is an idiot. He can’t tell the difference between a double toe and double loop. Peggy was right it was a double toe.

This shouldn't have been close. This performance was sloppy. I have seen her do better than this.

Her routine was very sloppy. So glad Michelle beat her. Irina shouldn’t have gotten higher marks in presentation than Michelle, the judges scored wrong.

Even butyrskaya was clearly better than slutskaya that night.

To me slutskaya 5.6 and 5.6 kwan 5.8 and 6.0. No possible comparison to me

I did not like the music editing... and why does it suddenly change to Paquita at the end???

In my opinion, Irina was lucky to be 2nd ahead of Hughes and Butyrskaya at this competition....

Big jumps, not a lot of flow in and out, and she telegraphs which is distracting from the choreography

peggy was right double toe on the end. on another note her arm movements are silly and superfluous and that triple triple was waaay under rotated almost a coming out forward and ABC didn't catch that.

Shame on America! The audience stood up after Slutskaya rolled and television did not even show it! Spectators all understood that Slutskaya won - what a stormy reaction to her rental especially on the final track of steps! SHAME AMERICA! Irina is the champion!

5.9 for presentation was too much. kwan deserved to win technicly and artisticly.

triple salchow-triple loop (the loop was half a rotation short), 5.9s for technical is obviously rigged (the russian or eastern european way of winning)

you are a poor loser. your performance was sloppy. I like your skating too but kwan performance was polished and sophisticated. wake up woman. michelle kwan was robbed in the 1998 and 2002 Olympic gold medal but she didn't get mad like you are.

What was she thinking? She only completed 6 triples vs Michelle's 7. She had a sloppy performance compared to Michelle's polished performance. Mediocre choreography compared to Michelle's more mature and sophisticated one. And she expected to win? Someone please slap this girl.

Irina's best skill was her jumps which were always done so brilliant however Irina's artistry was a bit sloppy.

Not drunk just biased. I think all the judges awarded Kwan either a 5.8 or 5.9 for artistic, including this one. So to put Slutskaya ahead, the judge had to award her that mark.

Did Michelle do a lip? I hadn't noticed that she ever did that. If so, she should have been able to do a proper lutz, lol. You're right, though; Michelle gets the technical as well as the artistic edge here. Especially if the quality of spins is counted toward the technical. Compare Michelle's sit spin to Irina's.
